Itineraries: Special Great Migration

Special migration route – North: Mara River – July / September

The best time of year for this “Special migration route” tour is from July to September. The safari* takes place mostly in the northern reaches of the Serengeti, where the giant herds of grazers, on their way to Kenya, usually  move in search of green grass. It is right here that one of the most spectacular show on the planet is played out: the fearsome crossing of the Mara river, with the predators lying in ambush in its waters and along the river’s banks. Subject of numberless nature documentaries, this moment is the most dangerous, yet fascinating one of the entire migratory cycle, something no tourist would want to miss. In this period, all the hotels are fully booked up to the point that some people don’t even find accomodation. Our suggestion to those who want to visit: book well in advance!

Special migration route: Grumeti and Western Corridor – May / July

This “Special migration route” tour is scheduled in the period between May and July. The safari will be in the western reaches of the Serengeti where, as every year,  the herds of ungulates, in search of fresh pastures,  move along the western corridor of the reknowned park which stretches towards Kenya. A very dramatic, yet spectatular moment is the crossing of the Grumeti river by the huge number of herbivores. This river, infested by crocodiles, is together with the Mara river among the most dangerous and treacheaous spots, stage of one of the most incredibile natural events which man can ever behold.

Special Migration route: South-east – Serengeti Seronera – December / April

This “special migration tour” is scheduled in the period between December and April. The safari takes place in the southern parts of the park, where the huge mass of herbivores, mainly wilderbeests, zebras and bisons find abundance of fresh pastures.
In this stretch of time, the pregnant beasts will wait until they give birth to their young ones, then once again set off on a new leg of their everlasting journey, along a migratory pattern of giant herds of grazers which has repeated itself since time immemorial…
